What LiDify does
LiDify photographs a physical object with your iPhone or iPad, turns those photographs into a 3D model on the device, measures it, checks whether it is printable, and exports it as STL, 3MF or OBJ. It is built for the case where a part has broken and you want to reproduce it.
Everything runs on your device. There is no account to create and no server to sign in to.
Which devices can scan
Capturing a scan needs a LiDAR scanner: iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro models, and iPad Pro models with LiDAR. This is Apple's Object Capture requirement, not ours.
On a device without LiDAR, LiDify still installs and still works for everything except capture — you can import a USDZ, STL or OBJ model and use the full measuring, repair, orientation and export pipeline on it. The app tells you this on the screen where you would have started a scan, rather than letting you find out afterwards.
Getting a scan worth using
- Even, diffuse light. Bright sun and hard shadows both confuse it.
- A matte object beats a shiny one. Glossy, transparent, black and mirror-finish surfaces are the hardest things you can point it at.
- Put the part on a surface with some texture — a printed scan mat, newspaper, a patterned cloth. A plain white table gives the camera nothing to track.
- Move slowly and keep going all the way round. Gaps in the photographs become holes in the model.
- Flip the part and scan the underside too, if the underside matters.
- Measure the part with a calliper and enter those numbers. This is the single biggest improvement you can make, and it is what turns a rough shape into something with a chance of fitting.
How accurate is it?
Overall size is reliable to roughly ±1 mm. Small features and surface detail are worse. If you have not calibrated against a physical measurement, the absolute scale can be off by a few percent.
Calliper measurements you enter yourself are exact — where a calliper and the scan disagree, the calliper is right. Treat the scan as evidence about shape, and your own measurements as the authority on size.
Before you print anything that has to fit, verify the dimensions that matter by measuring the real part. See the Terms (sections 6 to 8) for what LiDify must not be used for at all — structural, pressure, medical, vehicle and life-safety parts are on that list.

The optional AI features
LiDify can hand a scan to an AI assistant to help you turn it into a proper CAD model. There are two ways, both off unless you choose them:
- Share a bundle. LiDify writes a folder of images, measurements and notes and hands it to the iOS share sheet. You decide where it goes. The app transmits nothing.
- Ask Claude directly, using your own Anthropic API key. LiDify shows you the exact request first — every image, the full prompt text, the byte count and the estimated cost — and sends nothing until you tap Send. You are billed by Anthropic, not by us. The 3D model itself is never sent.
AI output is a suggestion to check, not an answer to trust. It can be confidently wrong about dimensions.
Troubleshooting
The scan stopped before it finished, or the app closed during capture.
There is a known Object Capture issue on some iPhone 17 Pro devices running iOS 26.4–26.5, and Apple reports a fix in iOS 26.6 — so updating iOS is worth trying first. Photographs already taken are kept and can still be reconstructed. Apple's own Measure app is a quick way to confirm the LiDAR hardware itself is fine.
Reconstruction failed or produced something unrecognisable.
Almost always too few photographs, too little light, or a surface the camera cannot see — shiny, dark or transparent. Rescan with more coverage and more light, on a textured surface.
The model is the wrong size.
Enter a calliper measurement and calibrate. LiDify also cross-checks the model against the LiDAR bounds and warns you when the two disagree, which usually means a unit or scale problem it can correct.
My slicer says the model is not watertight.
Open the model in LiDify and look at the printability check — it counts open edges and separate shells, and the repair step closes most holes. A model with several disconnected shells usually means the scan captured background along with the part.
Export is missing from the share sheet, or the file will not open.
Try exporting to Files first, then opening that file from your slicer. 3MF and STL are the safest choices for printing; OBJ is better if you are taking it into modelling software.
